Worst first day ever. A.J Clemente, a rookie news anchor, was fired on Monday after muttering “f*cking sh*t” into the microphone right after the segment went on air.
A.J Clemente was practicing pronouncing London marathon winner Tsegaye Kebede’s name when he got frustrated and swore, not realizing he had just gone on air. The result sounded like he was saying “gay f*cking sh*t”.
Shortly after, Clemente tweeted: “That couldn’t have gone any worse! Tough day, Thanks for the support, We all make mistakes. Im truly sorry for mine. I’ll try my hardest to come back better and learn from this.”
While the video of his f*ck up went viral, North Dakota’s KFYR-TV was less than impressed. The station acknowledged Clemente didn’t realize his mic was on, but said “that is no excuse” for his behaviour.
“Unfortunately KFYRTV has decided to let me go,” he wrote on Monday. “Thank you to them and everyone in ND for the opportunity and everyone for the support.”
“Rookie mistake. I’m a free agent. Cant help but laugh at myself and stay positive. Wish i didnt trip over my ‘Freaking Shoes’ out of the gate.”
On the bright side, his new catchphrase has opened him up to the national markets. Go f*ck yourself North Dakota, this guy’s going national!
Also, wasn’t this the plot of Anchorman? Maybe Clemente can cash in on a Hollywood career.
