What Reagan Missed: Other News of the Day

Other News - Rand Paul

Now that Rand Paul has the CPAC straw-poll victory under his belt, he thinks he can go around alienating his Tea Party base. The Kentucky senator outlined his position on immigration, implicitly supporting a path for citizenship. Although he tiptoes around the issue, never actually using the word “citizenship”, Rand Paul talked about expanding visas for high-tech workers and giving them priority, issuing “special entrepreneurial visas,” and acknowledged that America can’t just deport 12 million illegal immigrants. Other News - Syria Chemical WeaponsSyria has crossed the line. And that line is chemical weapons. Both the Syrian government and rebels accused each other of firing a chemical weapon near the northern city of Aleppo, killing at least two dozen people. Ahhh… a classic he said/she said. But a chemical weapons monitoring body and the US say there is no evidence chemical weapons had been used at all. The woman then jumped from her balcony to the level below, injuring her leg, before fleeing the hotel. BBC News

Other News - FeinsteinNRA, 1. Democrats, 0. Senate Democrats won’t include the ban on assault weapons in their gun-control bill due to lack of support. The bill would have banned banned almost 160 types of semiautomatic weapons and limited ammo clips to 10 rounds. Senator Dianne Feinstein, the chief sponsor of the ban, said she may re-introduce it as an amendment to the full bill, but will be unlikely to get enough votes to pass the Senate. Other News - Michelle ShockedFile this under: Things not to do in San Francisco. Folk-rock singer Michelle Shocked “shocked” fans at a San Francisco concert on Sunday night with an anti-gay rant. “When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilization and Jesus will come back,” Shocked said, “I believe the Bible is the word of God.” Since the incident, which appears to have been a mental break-down / born-again Christian fiasco, fans have been declaring her career over—especially since this is a singer as a large LGBT following.
