Current Event Cat of the Day:

The governor of Connecticut is set to sign some of the strictest gun control laws in the US today. Connecticut’s state legislature already passed the measures earlier in the day after 13 hours of debate.  The debate in the House stretched past midnight last night with opponents arguing that it infringed on their second amendment rights and supporters arguing that guns kill people.  The Senate also approved the measure hours before.

The new laws include America’s first registry of gun offenders, bans on selling high-capacity ammunition clips, and required background checks on all firearms buyers.

Elsewhere in the country (but definitely not in Nelson, Georgia) some states are looking to impose their own gun control measures including limits on the size of ammunition magazines and expanded background checks for gun buyers. But in the US Congress, efforts to pass gun control measures are struggling.
