Current Event Cat of the Day: Boston Marathon

Current Event Cat - Boston Marathon

Two powerful bombs, 12 seconds apart, went off in Boston on Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, leaving the sidewalks of Boylston Street covered in blood.

The Boston Police Department has reported that three people died, and more than 150 were injured. One of the dead includes an 8-year-old boy who came to watch his father run. Of the injured, as many as 17 are in critical condition. Many of the injuries involve shrapnel wounds to the lower limbs and several amputations had to be carried out.

Despite earlier reports, no bombs other than the two found at the finishing line have been found. The FBI is taking the lead in the case, calling it a “a criminal investigation that is a potential terrorist investigation.” Investigators said they have “active leads” though no suspects, and called on the public to come forward with any pictures or video they have of the scene.

President Obama spoke about the Boston Marathon explosions yesterday, saying that “we will find out who did this; we’ll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.
