Current Event Cat of the Day: Eric Toth

Current Event Cat - FBI Most Wanted Eric Toth

Eric Toth, noted child pornographer and one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives, has been captured in Nicaragua.

Eric Toth, a former Washington DC primary school teacher, had some big shoes to fill – he replaced Osama Bin Laden on the FBI’s top 10 most wanted list back in April, 2012. While his capture wasn’t as exciting as Bin Laden’s, thousands of little boys breathed a sigh of relief when Toth was detained near the border of Nicaragua and Honduras.

Eric Toth, 31, had been on the run since he was fired in 2008 when child pornography was discovered on a camera he had used at the school. Aside from that, he was also accused of putting a camera in a boys’ toilet.

In a notice on the top 10 list, the FBI described him as “a computer expert” with “above-average knowledge regarding computers”. Since when does above-average knowledge make you an expert? Anyway, the reason the FBI put him in the Osama spot (aside from the whole danger to children issue), was because of his appearance. The fact that he was thin, 6-foot-3, with green eyes and a big mole under his left eye was thought to be enough to make him easily identifiable.

He had been a third grade teacher for three years and had previously worked as a male nanny, teaching assistant and youth counselor. I guess he really liked children.
