Iowa Police Kill 19-Year-Old After Father Tries to Teach Him a Lesson

Iowa Shootings Comstock

Alternative Headline: Idiot cops in Iowa kill idiot son of idiot father who called the police.

Police in Ames, Iowa shot and killed 19-year-old Tyler Comstock after his father called authorities to report that the van the teen was driving was stolen.

Turns out the van wasn’t stolen. Tyler’s father, James, refused to buy his son more cigarettes so Tyler did what any angry teen would do and took off with his father’s truck to go buy his own damn cigarettes. Wanting to teach his son a lesson, James Comstock called the police and reported his vehicle as stolen.

“He took off with my truck. I call the police, and they kill him,” James Comstock told The Des Moines Register. “It was over a damn pack of cigarettes. I wouldn’t buy him none.”

Let’s all pause for a grammar cringe

Iowa police found the vehicle and chased Tyler Comstock onto the Iowa State University campus where they had set up a blockade. But instead of shutting off the truck like the police ordered, Comstock, whose family members say he has an “anger problem,” decided to engage in some reckless driving, putting pedestrians in danger and ramming the police officer’s car. Tyler was then shot six times by Ames police officer Adam McPherson. On the bright side, he did learn his lesson and NEVER smoked a cigarette again.

The Cumstock (typ0 and it stays) family are pretty outraged over the incident but Story County Attorney Stephen Holmes said that Officer McPherson’s actions were justified and he was cleared of any wrongdoing.

“In watching the videos I can’t help but express my concern that it was only by sheer luck that no one else was seriously injured or killed by Mr. Comstock.” Holmes said.

“Comstock’s actions did not allow any amount of time for the officers to devise or employ other ‘means’ to mitigate or defuse the situation ahead of the shooting…”

Lesson learned: don’t smoke, don’t use the police as a disciplinary tool, and definitely don’t drive through Ames, Iowa.
