Justin Trudeau Wins Liberal Leadership: No one is Surprised.

Justin Trudeau Wins

In a surprise win a win that everybody saw coming many months in advance, Justin Trudeau won the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Justin Trudeau, the son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, won on the first ballet, taking 80 percent of the vote. Joyce Murray finished a distant second with roughly 10 percent of the vote, followed by Martha Hall Findlay with 5.7 percent, and the rest of the losers with well under 5 percent.

Let’s review his qualifications:

  • Famous last name
  • Nice hair
  • Former French teacher
  • Former motivational speaker
  • 5 years as an MP for Papineau as part of the opposition
  • Liberal Party’s critic for Youth and Multiculturalism, Citizenship and Immigration, and Post Secondary Education, Youth and Amateur Sport (an important portfolio!)
  • Great at tiptoeing around policy discussions with vague rhetorical speeches
  • Can bring in lots of campaign money

I hate to be the one to say it (no I don’t , I love it), but if you dug up Pierre Trudeau’s grave, stuck his corpse on your hand and made it talk, you’d probably have a more substantive policy discussion.

The Conservatives wasted no time issuing a press release congratulating Trudeau on his win while at the same time slamming his lack of political experience.

“Justin Trudeau may have a famous last name, but in a time of global economic uncertainty, he doesn’t have the judgment or experience to be prime minister,” Conservative spokesman Fred DeLorey said.

They also issued some fun attack ads the day after the big win:

Come on Conservatives, electing the idiot son of a former leader can’t possibly go wrong… Let’s invade Iraq, eh?

And Kim Jong-un. We must never forget Kim Jong-un….
