Lance Armstrong Confesses All to Oprah

lance armstrong confesses all to oprah

Lance Armstrong confesses to all to Oprah (who else?) last weekend in a telling sit-down interview.

Lance Armstrong, once a hero for beating cancer and then beating something America hates even more (the French), was stripped of all his Tour de France titles after the U.S Anti-Doping Agency accused him last October of running one of the most sophisticated doping schemes officials had ever seen. Armstrong was banned for life from competing in sanctioned events and he also left Livestrong, the cancer charity he founded in 1997 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Lance must either be desperate for public sympathy and/or have huge balls one giant ball because last weekend, he spilled all to Oprah. In true Oprah fashion, she got right to the point, asking him a series of yes or no questions. To sum it up:

  • Lance confesses to doping during all seven Tour wins
  • Admits he was a bully to teammates
  • Denies that he ever ordered US Postal teammates to dope
  • Says he was motivated by a “ruthless desire to win”
  • Claims he did not dope following his 2009 comeback

While reaction to the interview was mainly negative, Oprah was “satisfied” (finally, high ratings on OWN!) and that’s all that really matters. She also believes Lance has the opportunity to be a hero again and if he’s willing to do the work, people will be willing to forgive him.

Well, I don’t know about that… An article actually titled “Polls Show Confessing is for Losers” suggests that Lance Armstrong’s popularity has plummeted and he probably should have kept up the lying to maintain his public standing.

At least he didn’t lie about having cancer?
