Michelle Obama Gets Heckled by a Lesbian Protester

Michelle Obama Gets Heckled

A member of an LGBT advocacy group heckled First Lady Michelle Obama at a private fundraising event Tuesday night.

Michelle Obama’s speech at a 200 person Democratic fundraising event was briefly interrupted by a protester demanding equal rights for gays. The woman, later identified as 56-year-old Ellen Sturtz, a member of GetEqual, got all up in Michelle Obama’s face, demanding her husband sign an executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Well, Michelle wasn’t having any of that. Especially not during the part of her speech when she talks about the future of out children! Obama addressed Sturtz directly, telling her, “One of the things that I don’t do well is this. Do you understand?” before walking toward her and saying, “Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.”

Not surprisingly the group, who paid $500-$10,000 to attend, chose to keep Michelle Obama and Sturtz was escorted out. But not before screaming that she was a “lesbian looking for federal equality before I die!”

In interview afterwards, Sturtz couldn’t seem grasp why people don’t love hecklers. Especially at a private 200 person event!

“She came right down in my face,” Sturtz said about the encounter with the first lady. “I was taken aback.”

“Basically, I was asked by the first lady to be quiet, and I can’t be quiet any longer,” Sturtz told the Huffington Post. “I was surprised by how negative the crowd seemed to be. It was actually a little unsettling and disturbing.”

“She obviously thought she was going to make an example of me or something. I wasn’t scared at all,” she added.

Right… just “taken aback”. Note to self: do not heckle Michelle Obama. It seems she knows how to shut them up a lot more efficiently than her husband. At least based on his long drawn out heckling experience with Medea Benjamin over closing Gitmo.
