New App Helps Icelanders Avoid Accidental Incest

Accidental Incest - Avoided!

You know it’s time to boost immigration when your country’s population is so small you need an app to avoid accidental incest.

Iceland has a small population (roughly 320,000) and a strange way of creating surnames, so finding someone to bang who is not related to you can often be time-consuming. Not to worry – there’s an app for that!

The new “incest prevention” app allows users to bump their phones together before they bump their genitals together. The app, based on the large online genealogical database about the inhabitants of Iceland called Íslendingabók, will instantly tell you whether or not you’re related to your date. If you’re too related, the app will notify you in a text and also sound some kind of “accidental incest” alarm.

Although the Íslendingabók database can be searched online by any Icelandic citizen or legal resident, the app makes the data readily available to Icelanders on their mobile phones — and adds the anti-incest feature, a must have for any sexually active Icelander!

According to one graphic designer from Reykjavik, who I will assume represents all Icelanders, “Everyone has heard the story of going to a family event and running into a girl you hooked up with some time ago… It’s not a good feeling when you realize that girl is a second cousin. People may think it’s funny, but (the app) is a necessity.” Well said.

The app is gaining in popularity. Although currently only available on Android phones, it has already been downloaded almost 4,000 times since it was launched earlier this month (or by over 1% of Iceland’s population).

The app was created by a group of Software Engineering students at the University of Iceland named Sad Engineer Studios. They are probably sad because they accidentally slept with their cousins…

Meanwhile, over in Alabama, engineering students are working on a “not so accidental incest app”, which will help them seek out cousins and other relatives to sleep with.
