Rainbow House Taunts Westboro Baptist Church

Westboro Rainbow House

An activist has bought the house across from the Westboro Baptist Church headquarters and turned in into what Westboro is calling a Sodomite Rainbow House.

Aaron Jackson, 31, bought the Topeka, Kansas house for $80,000 with the intention of turning it into a new gay-rights centre.

“The idea came right away when I saw the house for sale,” said Jackson. “I was like, ‘I’m going to turn it into an Equality House, and I’m going to paint it the color of the Pride flag.”

Sitting directly across from the publicity-seeking hate-preaching Westboro Baptist Church, the house has recently undergone a paint job. Jackson and a team of volunteers spent Tuesday painting the house in bright rainbow colours. Following the rainbow theme, Jackson also set up a giant pride flag flying from a 30-foot flagpole.

Jackson was inspired by the story of Josef Miles, 9, who made headlines last year for his “God hates no one” photobomb of a Westboro protest.

“We’re going to take the negative attention and try to spin it into something positive,” Jackson’s friend said. “Instead of millions of children around the world getting this hate message, they’re going to see this message of compassion and love.”

Jacoson, who helped found the charity Planting Peace, says he’s received nothing but support from the Topeka community.

“People keep coming out, honking horns, taking pictures,” he said. “There has been no negative response.”

In related news, Topeka, Kansas has now doubled its number of tourist attractions: The Westboro Church and the Sodomite Rainbow House.
