Current Event Cat - Manhunt Boston Police

Boston is in lockdown mode and Boston police are on a manhunt for the second bombing suspect.

People across Boston and its surrounding suburbs have been told by Boston police to stay indoors amid a massive police manhunt for one of two men suspected of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombings.

“Stay indoors with the doors locked,” the Massachusetts governor has said.

Suspect One, or Unsub One as the cast of Criminal Minds would say, is already dead after a shootout with police early Friday morning. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died in the hospital from gunshot wounds but his brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, remains at large after escaping the overnight shootout.

The manhunt began on Thursday when university police officer Sean Collier, 26, was killed on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus. The two unsubs then hijacked a car at gunpoint and drove to Watertown, a suburb of Boston. Meanwhile, heavily armed Boston police began chasing them, which resulted in the suspects throwing bombs at their pursuers and exchanging gunfire. The shootout lasted 10 minutes, leaving Unsub One dead and Unsub Two on the loose.

Both suspects are of Chechen origin but have lived in the United States for 10 years.

Current Event Cat of the Day: Boston Marathon

Current Event Cat - Boston Marathon

Two powerful bombs, 12 seconds apart, went off in Boston on Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, leaving the sidewalks of Boylston Street covered in blood.

The Boston Police Department has reported that three people died, and more than 150 were injured. One of the dead includes an 8-year-old boy who came to watch his father run. Of the injured, as many as 17 are in critical condition. Many of the injuries involve shrapnel wounds to the lower limbs and several amputations had to be carried out.

Despite earlier reports, no bombs other than the two found at the finishing line have been found. The FBI is taking the lead in the case, calling it a “a criminal investigation that is a potential terrorist investigation.” Investigators said they have “active leads” though no suspects, and called on the public to come forward with any pictures or video they have of the scene.

President Obama spoke about the Boston Marathon explosions yesterday, saying that “we will find out who did this; we’ll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.
