Trick or Treat? Step On The Scale First.

Trick or Treat Halloween

A North Dakota (or possibly Minnesota) woman is handing out delicious Halloween treats to children this year. Unless you’re a fat kid – then you get a trick in the form of a condescending letter.

The woman, known as Cheryl, has taken childhood obesity into her own hands, deciding to give a letter instead of candy to Halloween trick or treaters that she feels are “moderately obese.”

Cheryl called in to radio station WRIG and explained her plan.

“I just want to send a message to the parents of kids that are really overweight… I think it’s just really irresponsible of parents to send them out looking for free candy just ’cause all the other kids are doing it,” the woman said.

So instead of handing out healthy snacks to everyone, Cheryl is going for the judgmental letter that singles out the moderate to extreme fatties.

The letter reads:

“You [sic] child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar and treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season. My hope is that you will step up and parent and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits.”

Well, at least the festive jack-o-lantern softens the “your kid is a fatass” blow. Thanks clip-art!

As for Cheryl, this Halloween she can expect to receive a lot of toilet paper and perhaps some flaming bags of dog poop.

Halloween Update: Blackface, Still Not Okay

Trayvon Blackface

Blackface for Halloween is still in poor taste – especially when you’re depicting the murder of a 17-year-old boy.

Two Florida men are experiencing the wrath of the internet after a picture of their controversial Halloween costumes went viral over the weekend. The two twenty-somethings were dressed as George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman sported a neighborhood watch T-shirt and a finger gun while Trayvon sported blackface and a bloodied hoodie. Trayvon Blackface 2The pair forgot to include the Arizona ice tea and skittles though – key props to any costume depicting the high-profile case. If you’re going to go controversial, at least put some effort into it! This guy knows what I’m talking about ———->

Anyways, the photo was posted on Facebook and Instagram by the women in the middle with the caption, “Happy Halloween from Zimmerman and trayvon :)” Soon after, the photo was picked up by news websites and the backlash began.

Some were outraged over the use of blackface, calling it racially insensitive.

Julianne Hough BlackfaceOthers were totally cool with the blackface part and didn’t even mind Julianne Hough’s rendition of Crazy Eyes from Orange is the New Black. Although to be fair, it looked more like orangeface than blackface. But what many did take offense to was the fact that the two Florida geniuses chose to mock a 17-year-old boy’s death.

While Florida men dressing up as … well, Florida men, is bad, it’s still not nearly as creepy (or WTF) as Sexy Ernie and Sexy Bert. There go my childhood memories.

Walmart Yanks Osama bin Laden Costume

Osama Costume

Walmart is pulling an Osama bin Laden costume from their shelves after receiving complaints from the Sikh community. Well there goes my Halloween costume idea…

The Sikh Coalition said the turban-themed costume was offensive to 9/11 victims and perpetuates “negative stereotypes about turbans and beards that have led to violence and discrimination against Sikhs and other minorities.”

“If you lost a loved one during the 9/11 attacks or during our nation’s war against Al Qaeda, or if someone attacked your father in a hate crime because he wears a turban, I doubt this costume would make you comfortable,” said Rajdeep Singh, Director of Law and Policy at The Sikh Coalition.

Although the Sikh advocacy organization went on a letter writing rampage to numerous retailers, they didn’t get through to all of them. The costume, manufactured by Fun World, is still available at other fine retailers such as Sears and Rite Aid.

But who would want to dress up as Osama bin Laden anyways? Bin Laden is sooo 2011. Why not try another one of America’s enemies? There’s certainly no shortage!

Potential costume ideas: Bashar al-Assad, Edward Snowden, Al-Shebaab Mall Attackers, President Obama… and the list goes on!

Naughty LeopardBut if you’re thinking about going the “sexy cat” route for Halloween, you may be out of luck if you shop at Walmart. The superstore has also removed a “Naughty Leopard” Halloween costume from its shelves after people complained it was too sexual. Note: the costume was for toddlers.
