Happy Meals Can Be Addictive – Especially If They Contain Heroin

Happy Meal Heroin

A McDonald’s drive-thru employee was arrested Wednesday after undercover cops in Pittsburgh caught her selling heroin via a Happy Meal box.

Shania Dennis, 26, was arrested after undercover law enforcement officials conducted a drug buy. According to the officers, “the way that the deals would happen is that the customer looking for heroin was instructed to go through the drive-thru and say, ‘I’d like to order a toy.’ The customer would then be told to proceed to the first window, where they would be handed a Happy Meal box containing heroin.” Better than the side of apples!

When the undercover cops asked for a toy with their Happy Meal, Shania naturally added the heroin, and being the nice girl that she is, included the actual toy as well. The undercover officers recovered 10 stamp bags of heroin inside of their Happy Meal box and recovered 50 more bags after searching her. She was immediately arrested.

Luckily, the drugs recovered Wednesday do not appear to be related to the fentanyl-laced lethal batches of heroin that have been blamed for 22 overdose deaths in southwestern Pennsylvania – so you can continue ordering Happy Meals without worrying about any health consequences.

As for Shania Dennis, she is now charged with two counts of possession, one count of criminal use of a communication facility, one count of prohibited acts of delivery, one count of possession with intent to deliver, and a bunch of counts of selling junk food to junkies. But in Shania’s defense, McDonald’s did tell its employees to get a second job

McDonald’s Has Some Great Advice For Employees: Return Holiday Gifts to Get Out Of Debt And Stop Complaining

McResource Employees

McDonald’s knows how hard it is for employees to make ends meet – they’ve seen their $7.25 an hour paychecks. So the fast food giant set up a help website for McDonald’s employees called McResource.

The website Low Pay Is Not OK posted a few screenshots from the McResource site, which offers the following tips to employees:

  • You may want to also consider returning some of your unopened purchases that may not seem as appealing as they did.
  • Selling some of your unwanted possessions on eBay or Craigslist could bring in some quick cash.
  • Breaking food into smaller pieces often results in eating less and still feeling full.
  • Stop complaining. Stress hormones rise by 15% after 10 minutes of complaining.
  • At least two vacations a year can cut heart attack risk by 50%.

So can avoiding McDonald’s food – even if you do chop it up into smaller deep-fried pieces. Anyways, I’ve gotten more useful information from my cats, but McDonald’s is sticking to its McResource advice.

“This is an attempt by an outside organization to undermine a well-intended employee assistance resource website by taking isolated portions out of context,” a McDOnald’s spokeswoman wrote. “The McResource website has helped countless employees by providing them with a variety of information and resources on topics ranging from health and wellness to stress and financial management.”

McDonald’s was also criticized earlier this year for the sample budget it provided to employees which suggested picking up a second job and making do without heat. But at least they haven’t set up an employee food drive for their own employees… Walmart.

McDonald’s Helps Workers Budget by Telling Them to Get a Second Job

McDonald's Money SKills

Minimum wage has become a hot topic as of late but McDonald’s has you covered!

Fear not minimum wage earners! McDonald’s partnered with Visa to launch a website to help its low-wage workers budget. The budget is based on the average minimum wage of $8.25 an hour and includes a sample budget journal.

First, in order to survive off a minimum wage McDonald’s job, you will need a second full-time job. Makes sense, but if McDonald’s need to tell their employees to get a second job in order to survive, they might not be paying them a high enough wage. With two full-time minimum wage jobs you will need to work 74 hours a week to stick to the budget. Luckily you won’t have to worry about entertainment expenses because you won’t have any free time – what with all the working and sleeping.

What else does the budget allow?

Rent: $600 a month. That sounds reasonable if you’re living in a 100sq foot basement apartment in the middle of nowhere.

Health insurance: $20 a month. Bandaids and Nyquil – check!

Heating: $0 a month. Who needs heat when you can just develop a healthy layer of BigMac fat over your body? Keeps you warm and full! Doesn’t really help with the health insurance though….

Monthly “spending money”: $800 a month. This includes gas, food, clothing, childcare, Starbucks runs and everything else. Clearly the low food budget implies McDonald’s workers should just sneak some McNuggets when the manager isn’t looking.

McDonald's Budget

McDonald’s budget conclusion? “You can have almost anything you want as long as you plan ahead and save for it.”

Except for money of course.

You Now Need a Bachelor’s Degree to Work at McDonald’s

McDonald's Bachelor's Degree

Flipping burgers now requires a higher education.

A McDonald’s franchise in Winchendon, Massachusetts posted a job listing this week for a cashier with one to two years of experience and a bachelor’s degree. The ad calls for:

“Friendly people wanted to smile while serving lots of guests daily”

“Get a weekly paycheck with a side order of food, folks and fun.

Sounds tempting. The salary for the cashier position isn’t revealed, but if the $10 an hour management position is any indication, it’s probably pretty low… Too low to pay off the student loans.  $10 an hour would put a full-time worker at an average income of just over $20,000 a year.

But don’t get too discourage grads: the posting also promises “flexible hours,” “affordable health, vision and dental insurance” and even “free uniforms.” Not bad deal in an economy with 11.5% youth unemployment. Perhaps they will attract some college graduates.

But what happens if your employees start to get a little too educated? Strikes!!

New York City workers at more than 70 fast food chain restaurants (including McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and KFC) are expected to walk off the job today in protest of low wages. In addition to receiving minimum wage salaries, many workers are part time and receive no benefits. The employees are seeking to nearly double their hourly pay to $15 an hour. Also on their list of demands: the right to form a union without intimidation of retaliation.

New York’s minimum wage is currently at $7.25 but is expected to rise to $9 by the end of 2015.

That $10 an hour management position doesn’t look so bad now…
